- Very few people call me DarKanya, but that's my real name, DarKanya Nichelle. The older I get, the more I am learning to embrace it. It's not that I don't like it because I do; I just think it's not quite fitting. I'm originally from California from a small town in the Imperial Valley known as El Centro, but I like to refer to it as HELL Centro because it's hotter than Phoenix. I graduated from SDSU with a BA in Liberal Studies and a California Teaching Credential with a Cross-Cultural Language and Academic Development Emphasis. I moved from CA to Utah and presently AZ. I no longer teach. I've been a stay at home mom for 4 years now and I am now pursuing a path in photography and loving it! The absolutely awesome aspect of photography is that it's not bound by a set of rules. Because I spent 8 years being compliant in my teaching career, not to mention my high school years (LOL), I am thrilled to be liberated by photography because it is an outlet to plug in to unleash my unruly side. It also allows me to be as creative as I wish. I have 2 wonderfully rowdy boys and very supportive husband. I love my life.
